Bennett Architectural were commissioned to work on the Victoria Gate casino in Leeds by Sir Robert McAlpine working from architectural designs from ACME Architects & FUSE.
Our team worked on three parts of the project at Victoria Gate, including working on the John Lewis rooftop restaurant.
The work on the rooftop restaurant required a complex diagrid pattern, formed using laser cut aluminium sheet in gold ionized finish with structured silicon glazed curtain walling.
For the Victoria Gate arcade frameless glazing systems, which included curved glazing, the installation involved using bonded angles to the back of the glass inside concrete panels.
Kawneer AA100 roof glazing and AA720 windows within Cor-Ten Steel rain screen cladding were installed on the arcade’s rooftop restaurant.
Rob Bennett, Sales Director at Bennett Architectural commented, “This was an architecturally stunning scheme to work on.
“The John Lewis rooftop restaurant presented some significant challenges for the Kawneer AA100 curtain wall system as well as from an engineering standpoint.
“Due to the complex geometry of the diagrid pattern, in conjunction with a freestanding wrap-around curtain wall, our design team had to engineer bespoke connection details.
“These included specialist support brackets and a hybrid carrier system that was integrated into the AA100 system. We worked in conjunction with a specialist glass engineering company to achieve this innovative solution.”
As a testament to the intricacy of the project, Victoria Gate won the Retail Project of the Year at the World Architecture Festival 2017.
