Bennett Architectural assisted in the first phase of the refurbishment and development of West Cumberland Hospital, with plans for a second phase approved in 2020.

The first phase of the £90 million redevelopment of West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven was the single biggest investment into the healthcare of West Cumbria since the original hospital opened half a century ago, signalling a new dawn in hospital care.

This was achieved using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), a form of MMC where a building is designed to be easily manufactured in parts offsite and then transported and assembled on-site to save time, reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of the overall project.

Bennett Architectural fabricated and installed Kawneer’s AA601 Windows and AA100 Curtain Walling as part of the Health sector project.

The hospital opened to the public in October 2015.
