Trainee Design Technician Alex Davies is relishing the challenge of developing his role alongside studying his second year of a Foundation Degree at South Cheshire College.
He started the course in 2016, with the aim of moving up to degree level next year in BsC Hons Construction Management.
Alex started at Bennett Architectural in 2014 after successfully applying for an apprenticeship and began working with the Processing team who deal with drawings from designers and ensuring projects are ready to be fabricated in our workshop.
He now works four days a week at Bennetts and studies at South Cheshire College one day, on modules including quantity surveying, sustainability, property law and using CAD software.
Alex Davies commented,
“Working with the Processing team I get involved in assigned projects very early on working with designer drawings and pulling the details apart, so materials can be scheduled and sent off for fabrication.
“I have had the opportunity to work on some huge projects for the company including the Meadowhall Shopping Centre and more recently the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and ABCAM Biomedical Campus. Bennetts have been helpful in allowing me to study whilst working and developing my role.
“My aim is to continue developing my skills and work on the designs for projects going forward and becoming a key Design Technician contact on projects.”
Paul Johnson, Design Manager added,
“We’re delighted with the progress of Alex since he joined Bennett Architectural on an apprenticeship in 2014.
“His commitment to undertaking a University level course alongside his role at the company shows his determination to keep on enhancing his skills and his role at Bennetts.”
